With the help of Hall County’s congressional delegation, the House earlier this week approved a bill that would mean year-round Daylight Saving Time nationwide. No more “springing forward” and “falling back.” EARLIER STORY. POSTED WEDNESDAY: Clyde, McCormick vote ‘yes’ on DST bill
Fox 5’s Alex Forbes has put together a report on what this would mean to Georgia residents:
Here is exactly what it would mean for us in Georgia if it officially becomes law:
*Permanent Daylight Saving Time: We would “spring forward” one last time and stay there forever. No more falling back in November.
*Later Sunsets All Year: We’d get an extra hour of evening light during the winter months. Instead of the sun setting around 5:30 PM in December, it would stay light until roughly 6:30 PM.
*Darker Winter Mornings: The trade-off? Morning sunlight will start much later. In the dead of winter, the sun wouldn’t rise in Atlanta until around 8:40 AM, meaning many commutes and school drop-offs would happen in total darkness.
Now that the bill has passed the House, it awaits Senate action. If clears that hurdle, it goes to President Trump, who has indicated he would sign it.
