Lake Lanier tops in country for fall colors

Just in time for the arrival of Fall next week, Lake Lanier has been named the best lake in the country for fall colors, according to a new study just published by Boatbooker.

The study considered several factors when ranking the lakes, including “access to boat ramps, proximity to a nearby city, fall foliage timing and recognizability.”

Here’s Lanier’s score sheet:

*It has 66 boat ramps within 20 miles and received 13.6 points for boat access.

*The lake also scored 24 out of 30 possible points for proximity to Atlanta.

*Received an additional 12 points for recognizability, bringing its total to 69.6.

Meanwhile, Oct. 8 is the projected peak foliage date for Lanier.

Two other Georgia lakes also made the national Top 10: Lake Hartwell, on the South Carolina state line, at #3 and Clarks Hill, near Augusta, at #6.
