A Boil Water Advisory issued Sunday remains in effect in Lula because of low water pressure caused by what city officials say are “critically low” water tank levels. The water levels began “dropping significantly” Saturday night.
“Overnight Sunday night, our water storage tanks recovered somewhat, but they are still not at full operating levels,” a city advisory issued Monday night says. “While many customers maintained normal water pressure, we did receive reports from residents in various parts of the city experiencing low water pressure.
“Out of an abundance of caution and to protect the health of our customers, the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for the entire City of Lula. If you are experiencing low water pressure, please boil any water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or preparing food until the advisory is lifted.
“The most important thing every resident can do right now is CONSERVE WATER!!”
Meanwhile, Lula remains under an outdoor watering ban, and any non-essential water use should be postponed.
“At this time, we do not have an estimated timeline for lifting the advisory. Our groundwater wells are currently unable to keep pace with demand. As water usage decreases, we expect our storage tanks to recover more rapidly.”
Officials add the city is also actively working on long-term solutions. “We are currently in discussions with the City of Gainesville regarding upgrades to the existing water interconnection, which will strengthen our system and improve reliability during periods of high demand.”
