HCSO: Deputy injured while trying to subdue motorist

Hall County sheriff’s deputies arrested an Atlanta woman on several drug and traffic related charges early Wednesday on Georgia 365 and one of them was injured in the process. It was the second time in less than a week a deputy has been injured in the line of duty.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“At approximately 1:30 a.m., a patrol deputy observed a northbound 2015 Ford Fusion traveling approximately 73 mph in a 55 mph construction zone on near YMCA Drive. The deputy got behind the car, and the driver continued speeding, failed to maintain lane and changed lanes without signaling. The deputy activated his patrol vehicle’s blue lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver continued northbound. A Georgia State Patrol trooper, also on Ga. 365, successfully stopped the vehicle near Cagle Road.

The deputy and trooper approached the vehicle, and the driver refused to roll down the window. The trooper broke the window, and the driver, later identified as Chyna Michelle Randolph, 30, refused to exit the vehicle. The deputy removed her from the vehicle, and after a brief struggle, took her into custody. Law enforcement located approximately 2.2 grams of MDMA, about 2 grams of cocaine and a THC vape in the car.

Deputies arrested Randolph and charged her with the following:

  • Obstruction of an officer (felony)
  • Possession of cocaine (felony)
  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (felony)
  • Possession of THC oil (felony)
  • Obstruction of an officer (misdemeanor)
  • Speeding (misdemeanor)
  • DUI (drugs) (misdemeanor)
  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer (misdemeanor)
  • Failure to maintain lane (misdemeanor)
  • Improper lane change (misdemeanor)

Randolph was booked into the Hall County Jail following her arrest and remains held without bond on some of the drug charges.

The deputy sustained minor injuries during the struggle and was treated at a hospital, where he was later released Wednesday morning.
