HCSD reports record AP, IB exam success

Hall County School District (HCSD) students posted record results on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams this year.

AP students achieved a 70% pass rate, a one percent increase from last year and the highest overall rate since at least 2013. The number of AP exams taken rose by more than 600 compared to the previous year.

“Once again, our students have set a new standard with their AP performance,” Superintendent Will Schofield said. “We’re proud of their effort, the support of their families, and the dedication of our teachers who continue to help students reach these kinds of goals.”

The district’s three International Baccalaureate programs — at Johnson High, North Hall High, and West Hall High — also saw gains. Seniors completed 444 IB exams with a 79% pass rate, up nine percent from last year. Students excelled in IB History of the Americas and Spanish B courses, with pass rates above 94%. IB Spanish B students earned a 100% pass rate at both the standard and higher levels.

Fifty-one students earned IB diplomas, including bilingual and career diplomas, for an overall diploma pass rate of 86%. IB Career Diploma students pursued pathways such as art, graphic arts, healthcare and marketing.

“Both AP and IB programs are among the most rigorous academic pathways available to high school students, and the success our students achieved in these programs is something we should all celebrate,” said Suzanne Jarrard, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning. “The challenges students take on while taking AP and IB courses build the knowledge, skills, and work ethic that will serve them well in college, career, and life beyond high school.”
