The parts of Georgia experiencing drought conditions increased by about 20 percent the past week and the intensity increased as well, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor’s weekly report.
Whereas for the previous three weeks, the drought maintained its hold on 35 percent of the state, this week that increased to about 52 percent.
Most of the drought is confined to the counties along and north of a line from Augusta to the southside of metro Atlanta to Carrollton. Most counties, including Hall and those adjacent to it, are considered “moderately dry.” But in a string of counties from Clayton to just south of Chattanooga, conditions are worse. And there are pockets of drought in southwest and southeast Georgia.
