The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is looking for public comment on a dam safety study that will affect those with interests around Lake Chatuge on the Georgia-North Carolina border.
Inspections determined that joints in the concrete slab and underdrain system of the Chatuge Dam spillway have deteriorated. In the event of an extreme rainfall similar to Hurricane Helene, water flowing over the spillway could potentially cause damage or failure. Chris Saucier is the senior project manager for dam safety at TVA and says hearing input from the public is crucial.
In-person and virtual open house events are coming up in May, with all information at tva.com/Chatuge.
