The drought in Georgia continued to worsen in the southern portion of the state over the past seven days but there was no change in the northeast.
The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) says all or parts of nine counties along the Florida line are now suffering from “exceptional” drought – the worst of the categories it uses to define the extent of dry weather. The conditions in other counties in that area are only slightly better.
The only parts of the state that are considered drought-free this week are the northeast corner (with the exception of about two-thirds of Forsyth County) and a few counties in the northwest.
Overall, only about ten percent of Georgia is considered drought-free.
The level of Lake Lanier, meanwhile, continues to drop. It was 1064.6 Thursday, compared to 1064.8 a week ago.
