HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

Two people suffered injuries in a rollover interstate crash under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) this week.

Investigators responded to the two-vehicle collision on the southbound side of Interstate 985 north of Exit 12 (Spout Springs Road) at approximately 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 9. Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) personnel also responded to check vehicle occupants for injuries.

According to the initial investigation, Robert Daniel Boicu, 23, of Buford, was driving south on Interstate 985 in a 2024 GMC Sierra while pulling a trailer. Zackary Hunter Stephens, 22, of Gainesville, was behind him, driving a 2013 Ford Focus. As Stephens attempted to change lanes, his car crashed into the rear of the trailer. The car rolled several times before coming to a stop in the median.

HCFR transported Stephens and his passenger, Justice Monae Williams, 21, of Lawrenceville, to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators classified their injuries as visible injuries. Boicu was not injured in the crash. All three occupants were wearing seatbelts.

AIU continues to investigate the collision that blocked the southbound lanes of the interstate for roughly 25 minutes.

GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

On June 9, 2026, at approximately 2:30 pm, a trooper from the Gainesville Post of the Georgia State Patrol responded to SR 365 (Cornelia Highway) and SR 52 (Lula Rd) to investigation a traffic crash.

Upon arrival, the trooper determined a Nissan Altima, driven by a 15-year-old Gainesville girl, was traveling north on SR 365, in the left turn lane for SR 52.  She failed to yield while turning left and entered the path of a Toyota Tundra that was traveling south on SR 365.  The Tundra was driven by Nicholas Massengill, 66, of Marietta, was unable avoid the collision and struck the passenger side of the Altima with its front.

After impact, the Altima came to an uncontrolled rest in the grass median of SR 365 while the Tundra traveled off the west shoulder of SR 365 into the ditch. Both drivers were transported from the scene for treatment of minor injuries.

The 15-year-old was cited for failure to yield while turning left and violation of her learner’s permit restrictions.
