A few days ago, we reported that Longwood Park which had been closed since fall for a major renovation had reopened and that the work included a new pavilion but there was more. Much more. And now Gainesville Parks and Recreation Director Kate Mattison has filled us in:
“Dogwood Pavilion and the northern section of Longwood Park has reopened!
Work included:
- Demolition of old pavilion
- Building a new pavilion, restroom, and kitchen
- Replacing the playground
- Relocating the kayak shack within the park
- Repairing the pedestrian bridge located near the tennis courts
- Adding bollard lighting throughout the northern section of the park
- The rest of the park will have lighting eventually, including bollard lighting along the lake walk, but that will be completed over the coming years
- New ADA parking near the pavilion
“…there are still a few items to be finalized but the park is open! The total project cost was just under $3.5 million.”
