UPDATE: More info on the renovated Longwood Park

A few days ago, we reported that Longwood Park which had been closed since fall for a major renovation had reopened and that the work included a new pavilion but there was more. Much more. And now Gainesville Parks and Recreation Director Kate Mattison has filled us in:

“Dogwood Pavilion and the northern section of Longwood Park has reopened!

Work included:

  • Demolition of old pavilion
  • Building a new pavilion, restroom, and kitchen
  • Replacing the playground
  • Relocating the kayak shack within the park
  • Repairing the pedestrian bridge located near the tennis courts
  • Adding bollard lighting throughout the northern section of the park
    • The rest of the park will have lighting eventually, including bollard lighting along the lake walk, but that will be completed over the coming years
  • New ADA parking near the pavilion

“…there are still a few items to be finalized but the park is open! The total project cost was just under $3.5 million.”
