*Many of the top races in Tuesday’s Georgia Primaries will be decided in runoff elections next month. Lt. Governor Burt Jones and Rick Jackson are advancing to a runoff in the Republican primary for governor, as neither secured over 50 percent in Tuesday’s vote. Democrat Keisha Lance-Bottoms is the projected winner in her bid to become Georgia’s 84th governor in November. In the U.S. Senate race, Democrat Jon Ossoff won uncontested, while Republicans Mike Collins and Derek Dooley will face a runoff for Ossoff’s seat on June 16. The GOP race for Lt. Governor will feature a runoff between John F. Kennedy and Greg Dolezal.
*Atlanta’s City Council is calling for a study into the privatization of TSA at the city’s airport. The council recently approved a resolution to study the feasibility of making the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) private to avoid future disruptions during government shutdowns. Nearly 40 percent of TSA workers called out during the most recent government shutdown, causing long wait times at Hartsfield-Jackson, the world’s busiest airport, and canceling flights for several airlines. The TSA union president reportedly said in a statement that the organization is against privatization. The results of the study are expected within the next 90 days.
*An Athens police investigator, William Gipson, 52, has been fired by the department following his arrest by the GBI on charges of Tampering with Evidence and 2nd Degree Cruelty to Children. Gipson and two others were arrested in connection with a child abuse investigation in Franklin County, where they all live. The case also involves Child Molestation and Attempted Creation of Child Sex Abuse Material (CSAM).
