*A Lee County man accused of taking part in a “racially-charged” shooting is out on a $250,000 bond. Jeffrey Kinzer is accused of shooting at a neighbor’s house recently while they were having a family gathering. Judge Jim Thurman set the bond during a court hearing earlier this week, calling the incident stupid. The judge also approved 59 extra charges against Kinzer. But the victims are upset that bond was even granted.
*A federal grand jury has returned an eight-count indictment charging a couple with allegedly starving their son to death and abusing their pets, causing the death of one of their dogs. They were living in military housing at Ft. Benning. Ladarrion McCray, 23, was an active-duty soldier who had recently been transferred to Ft. Benning.
*The state Department of Transportation is studying the potential for passenger rail service between Atlanta and Savannah and wants your feedback. The service would connect the two cities via Athens, Milledgeville, Macon, Statesboro, Augusta, and other cities. The public comment period runs until August 6.
