*There will be no raises for school presidents in the University System of Georgia this year. The Board of Regents voted on Wednesday to keep salaries level. The highest-paid president in the system at $1.2 million is Georgia Tech’s Angel Cabrera. Outgoing Chancellor Sonny Perdue says he’d told system presidents to justify every expense with zero-based budgeting.
*A new bill adding the 999 suicide hotline to the IDs for Georgia students is now in effect. It requires public schools to show the hotline number on student IDs for grades 6-12. The 988 hotline is the national suicide hotline assisting people in a mental crisis. The new requirement will take effect this upcoming fall semester.
*Brookhaven Police arrested a lead teacher and the director of a Brookhaven preschool for on several charges of child abuse. Officers say they arrested 27-year-old Charles K. Wheeler, who faces six counts of first-degree cruelty to children, and 63-year-old Beverly J. Moon, who was charged with being a party to the crime.
