Gville’s inland port gets high marks from environmental group

Even before operations there begin, Gainesville’s inland port is getting high marks from a state environmental group.

“Georgia’s new inland port in Gainesville will replace an estimated 26,000 truck roundtrips in its first year, easing congestion and improving air quality across the Atlanta region,” the Georgia Climate Digest writes. By shifting freight from a 600-mile truck route to rail, the project offers a practical example of how transportation efficiency can reduce emissions while strengthening Georgia’s logistics network.”

The facility, being built by the Georgia Ports Authority, is scheduled to open next month. EARLIER STORY. POSTED MARCH 24: Opening date for Gville’s Inland Port set
