Forsyth BOE approves plan to enhance bus safety & more

The Forsyth County Schools Board of Education (BOE) has approved an agreement with BusRight, Inc. to enhance the district’s school bus transportation system. It establishes a partnership between the school district and BusRight, Inc. to improve its ability to provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for students and families.

“This is a step in the right direction for our schools,” said Superintendent Mitch Young. “It strengthens safety for our students and staff, while also improving efficiency in how we operate our transportation system. When we can do both, we are being responsible with taxpayer dollars and making smart investments that support our entire community.”

Forsyth County Schools operates more than 400 buses each day, serving over 33,000 students and families.

As part of the agreement, BusRight tablets will be installed on school buses. Similar to the integrated screen technology found in modern vehicles, these tablets are designed to support drivers with real-time information in a secure, digital environment.

Key features include:

  • Improved routing tools to help optimize bus routes and bus stop locations, supporting safer and more efficient transportation
  • Turn-by-turn navigation for all bus routes and stops
  • Enhanced communication tools that provide drivers and district staff with important student and route information, including relevant student needs, through the district’s student information syste
  • Real-time tracking of bus routes, including arrival times at stops and schools
  • A parent communication app that allows families to view live estimated arrival times for their child’s bus

The tablets will be installed on select buses this spring and summer as part of a phased implementation plan. The district’s goal is to have the system fully operational across all school buses by the end of the school year.
