WINTER STORM II – HCSO, EMA: Stay off the roads, plan on staying at home 36 hours or more

HCSO ADVICE:

“Over the last few days, you probably have heard ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑโ€™๐˜€ ๐˜€๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ, but we are going to double down on the warning to ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ. (Get ready for a lecture here. ๐Ÿ˜‰)

During one of the weather briefings this week, one of the emergency responders made the comment that “people are scared of ice, but they think snow is just fun.” The problem is ๐˜€๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ถ๐˜ ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜†-๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐˜€, and that’s the scenario forecasters are predicting for this weekend.

(The accompanying photo is from snow last January). Folks decided they could navigate the messy roads; many got stuck and walked away from their vehicles. Abandoned vehicles were towed and the vehicle owners got miffed at us. Here’s our advice:

โ„๏ธGet somewhere tonight where you plan to stay for the next 24-36 hours.

โ„๏ธThe snow is expected to arrive in Hall County between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Saturday with the heaviest snowfall occurring between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday.

Hall County is currently located in the ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜ area of the state with up to 6 inches of snow possible.

โ„๏ธIf you somehow find yourself on the roads and you get stuck in the snow, please Instead call the non-emergency dispatch number 770-536-8812, ext. 8, and tell them you need assistance from a deputy. If you are in a dangerous place, call 911. If your vehicle is abandoned, it will be towed. Leaving a note on your windshield does not count as notifying law enforcement.

You all did a great job with last weekend’s ice storm, and we’re counting on you to hang tough this weekend! We’ll bring you updates as needed.

HALL CO. EMA ADVICE:

“We get it! Everyoneโ€™s weather weary right now! But with another winter storm on the way, we want to keep you safe and informed.

Winter Storm Warning: Friday Evening through Early Saturday Night

Most of Northeast and East Central Georgia – including Hall County – are now under a Winter Storm Warning. Confidence is increasing for 2โ€“4 inches of snow (with locally higher amounts possible) and dangerously cold wind chills.

The biggest concerns: Please stay off the roads! Once the snow starts falling, driving conditions will quickly become hazardous. We recommend planning to stay home for at least 36 hours.

Make sure you have enough food, water, and medication to last several days.

Your safety is our top priority! Stay tuned for updates and make sure youโ€™re signed up for alerts at alerts.hallcounty.org.

Follow Hall County Government and Hall County Emergency Services for real-time updates. Stay safe and help us keep the roads clear for emergency crews!”
