Drought conditions worsening in northeast Ga.

Though “moderately dry” conditions continue to dominate drought coverage in Georgia, the areas now considered “severely” dry expanded the past week and now include all of Hall County and all or parts of each county in our corner of the state. That’s according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).

In fact, most of north Georgia – from the Alabama border to the South Carolina state lien – is now labeled “severely dry.” The area falling into that category is along and north of a line from Elbert County to Hall to Gilmer to Walker and Dade counties.

The level of Lake Lanier, meantime, is down another tenth of a foot from a week ago and was at 1064.2 Thursday morning.
