Though the amount of the state covered by drought conditions remained unchanged from a week ago, the intensity has increased in parts of seven counties – including Hall where the southwestern corner is considered “moderately dry.” The rest of the county is in the “abnormally dry” category, the least serious one.
Meanwhile, the drought-free areas are found in several northeastern and southeastern counties along the Tennessee and North Carolina borders and coastal waters, respectively. They are Rabun, Habersham, White, Lumpkin, Fannin, Towns, Union, Chatham, Bryan, and Liberty.
The hardest hit areas, where conditions are now considered “extreme,” are in Colquitt (Moultrie), Tift (Tifton), Thomas (Thomasville), Mitchell (Camilla), Worth (Sylvester), and Grady (Cairo).
And the level of Lake Lanier? It continues to suffer, as well, down another four-tenths of a foot over the past seven days to 1067.2.
