Butler Parkway lane splitter charged

Did you know it is illegal in Georgia for motorcyclists to ride between rows of traffic? Well, it is, and a motorcycle rider was busted on just such a charge on E.E. Butler Parkway about 6:30 Monday night, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

“The charge for operating motorcycle on roadway laned for traffic is a charge for what deputies call ‘lane splitting’,” said spokeswoman B.J. Williams. “In other words, Mr. Idrobo Daza was driving in between the lanes of traffic where there was no designated lane.”

Williams added that a deputy, who was on patrol on Butler Parkway near the Exit 22 on ramp, saw him doing this and stopped the motorcycle.

But that’s not the only charge Daza is facing. Others include a driver’s license violation, operating a vehicle with an expired tag, failure to maintain lane, and no proof of insurance.

Georgia is one of 16 states where “lane splitting” is illegal. It is legal in only three: California, Minnesota, and Montana. In all the others, there are variations of the laws that are on the books and, according to hawaiistar.com, that state does not have any specific laws that address or regulate lane splitting, leaving room for interpretation and enforcement by law enforcement officers.  Is Lane Splitting Legal In Hawaii? – Hawaii Star
