The Flowery Branch Police Department is working with the Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office to address what it says is “a critical public safety issue” concerning parking at the Publix Supermarket located at 5900 Spout Springs Road.
“We have received multiple complaints regarding vehicles stopping and parking in the fire lane,” says a police department Facebook post, “particularly during peak evening hours.”
The post goes on to say, “Georgia law (O.C.G.A. 40-6-203) explicitly prohibits stopping or parking anywhere prohibited by official signs.” This law, the post continues, is in place to ensure that emergency vehicles have immediate, unobstructed access to the store.
Starting immediately, both the Flowery Branch Police Department and Hall County Fire Rescue will be strictly enforcing this law, the post warns. And the bottom line is this:
• ACCEPTABLE: Brief stops to drop off or pick up passengers.
• NOT ACCEPTABLE: Parking, waiting, or otherwise occupying the fire lane. Please use a designated parking space.
