Woman with strong ties to UNG dies; was 1st newspaper sports editor in Ga.

A woman with strong ties to the University of North Georgia (UNG) has died. Jeanette Gregory Ensley of Dahlonega was 87.

Her love of basketball and sports in general led a job as the first woman sports editor in Georgia when she was with the Hartwell Sun.

Ensley’s her late husband, Bill, was a legendary basketball coach at UNG. A proud basketball fan, she was a courtside staple at UNG games.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
