HCSO: Monthslong investigation ends with arrests & seizure of drugs, guns

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and federal agents culminated a monthslong drug and firearms investigation with the arrest of two men Monday afternoon in Gainesville.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“SIU “investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Holland Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday. During the search, investigators seized roughly 180 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) cartridges and approximately $8,000 in cash. The street value of the cartridges is estimated at $3,500.

The primary suspect in the case, Moises Hernandez Rodriguez, 19, left the residence in a vehicle shortly before the search. Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies quickly arrested him during a traffic stop in the 500 block of Dorsey Street. Deputies cited him for an open container violation and illegal window tint.

Investigators charged Hernandez Rodriguez with possession of THC oil with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felonies). Hernandez Rodriguez had approximately ten THC cartridges and a handgun in his possession during the stop.

Also immediately before the house search, another occupant of the residence, Moises Hernandez-Mendez, 40, left on foot with an AR-style pistol and several fraudulent documents taken from the home. Investigators arrested him and charged him with tampering with evidence (felony).

The SIU investigation into Hernandez Rodriguez began in August 2025. During the eight-month investigation, Hernandez Rodriguez sold psilocybin mushrooms on two occasions. He also sold LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and THC oil once each. Hernandez Rodriguez was armed with a firearm on at least three of those occasions.

In addition to the charges related to Monday’s search, investigators charged him with three counts of sale of a schedule I drug, one count of sale of THC oil and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. All charges are felonies.

Both men were taken to the Hall County Jail following their arrests. Hernandez Rodriguez is being held without bond on his drug charges. Hernandez-Mendez’s bond is $5,700. He also has an immigration detainer.

In addition to patrol deputies, the Sheriff’s Office Warrant Service Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted SIU with the ongoing investigation.”
