A West Hall Middle School (WHMS) student’s threat Wednesday to bring a gun to school today was a hoax, according to the school’s principal.
In a message Wednesday night to parents and guardians, Amy Wade wrote:
“This afternoon, the administration at West Hall Middle School was informed that an eighth-grade student had made a threat to bring a gun to school and harm other students. After a thorough investigation by both law enforcement and school officials, it was determined that the student had no access to weapons. The student has been referred to law enforcement, and appropriate disciplinary action per the district student code of conduct has been taken. There are no safety concerns regarding our school day tomorrow.
“Student awareness of “See Something, Say Something” is crucial to ensuring a safe environment for everyone. We strongly encourage you to speak with your student about immediately bringing these safety concerns to a trusted adult, and remind them that making or posting threatening remarks will result in disciplinary measures.
“Keeping students and staff safe is the number one priority of West Hall Middle School and the HCSD, and we take matters such as these very seriously.”
