Two dead, 30+ wounded in middle Ga. mass shooting

Two people were killed and up to 35 others were wounded after gunfire erupted at a block party in Vienna early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred at about 1:30 during a neighborhood gathering that drew more than 1,000 people. The event was being held to celebrate the local high school’s homecoming football victory.

According to investigators, deputies who were patrolling the area responded after shots were fired near the 900 block of Pine Street. When officers arrived, they found two men dead and numerous other people wounded. The victims who died were identified as ages 20 and 23.

Authorities said approximately 25 people were transported to hospitals for treatment, while the total number of people injured was reported to be as high as 35.

Investigators have not released information about a suspect or a possible motive.

Vienna is 55 miles south of Macon via I-75.
