Hall County Superior Court Judge John Breakfield says he has turned down a chance to be appointed to the Georgia Supreme Court.
Judge Breakfield Wednesday posted a notification from the state’s Judicial Nominating Commission on Facebook, telling him he had been nominated for a seat on the state’s highest court.
“…congratulations on being nominated to the vacancy on the Supreme Court of Georgia,” it reads in part. “Although the nominating deadline is not until April 7, 2025, we wanted to notify you of your nomination now…”
But in an open response to the people of Hall and Dawson counties, the two counties he serves, Judge Breakfield wrote: “Nice to be considered, but I will not be applying. I am honored to be Your Superior Court Judge!”
The vacancy was created March 31 when Chief Justice Michael Boggs resigned.
Judge Breakfield was elected in November to fill the vacancy in Superior Court created by the retiring Kathlene Gosselin, who stepped down Dec. 31. He was serving as a State Court Judge at the time.
