Georgia’s annual summer outdoor burn ban begins Friday in Hall County and 53 others in the state. That reminder came Wednesday morning from Hall County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Kimberlie Ledsinger.
“As of Friday, May 1st, the Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office will no longer issue commercial or residential burn permits,” Ledsinger said. “This includes any yard and land clearing fires. Cooking and warming fires are permitted during this time, but please ensure you have a water source or other method of extinguishment nearby.”
The ban has nothing to do with dry weather but is in place every summer in an effort to reduce the amount of ozone in the atmosphere which tends to be trapped near the Earth’s surface during hot weather.
In our area, in addition to Hall, the ban is effective in Lumpkin, Dawson, Forsyth, Banks, Jackson, Barrow, and Gwinnett counties.
This will remain in effect until October 1.
