Study: Jackson Co. Lumpkin Co. nursing homes in danger of closing

(SRN NEWS/AP/97.5 GLORY FM) – A Brown University study has found that nursing homes in Jackson and Lumpkin counties are among hundreds across the country that are in danger of closing because of expected Medicaid cuts stemming from President Trump’s recently signed “big, beautiful bill.”

They are Northridge Health and Rehab in Jackson and Gold City Health and Rehab in Lumpkin. In all, 37 nursing homes in Georgia are on the list. Here’s where you’ll find them and those in other states as well:

Georgia Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, who voted against the bill said July 1 shortly after it passed the Senate “This bill is a disaster for the State of Georgia. It guts the Medicaid program and puts nursing homes and hospitals at risk. It will drive up health insurance premiums for working and middle-class families in Georgia, and it takes a hatchet to the fast-growing industry that is driving Georgia’s economic development,”

Public outcry over Medicaid cuts led Republicans to include a provision that will provide $10 billion annually to buttress rural hospitals over the next five years, or $50 billion in total. Many rural hospital advocates are wary that it won’t be enough to cover the shortfall.

The House members who represent Jackson and Lumpkin counties voted for the bill.
