*Two staff members of an East Georgia school are accused of abusing kids. The GBI says agents started investigating their actions after receiving an anonymous tip about abuse at Claxton Elementary School in Evans County last week. Surveillance tape reportedly shows a 47-year-old pre-K teacher repeatedly hitting students in the face. She was arrested for child cruelty, while another employee was charged with failure to report.
*Early voting is entering a second week in Georgia. Voters statewide are deciding two Public Service Commission seats. Ballots will otherwise feature local races for the November 4 election with some locations holding referendums on such things SPLOST. Early voting locations are required to be open through Saturday this week.
*Four disaster-trained volunteers from the American Red Cross of Georgia are deploying to Alaska to support relief efforts following Typhoon Halong, which devastated several coastal villages and forced the evacuation of as many as 2,000 residents. Evacuees are being transported nearly 500 miles from their homes to safe shelter in Anchorage, Alaska.
