Rain on the way, maybe lots of it

Much of north Georgia, including the Gainesville, may be in for significant rainfall over the next few days, according to the weather service but first today is expected to be dry, windy and cold and because of the winds and low humidities a Fire Danger Day.

“Rain is on the way!” forecasters said at mid-morning Saturday. “For most of north and central Georgia, we expect 1 to 2 inches of rainfall from Sunday morning through Tuesday evening. This will be much needed as drought conditions persist across most of the state.” EARLIER STORY. POSTED WEDNESDAY:

Predicted rainfall amounts include 2-3 inches in Gainesville,1.5-2 inches in Blairsville, Dalton, Rome, and Athens and pretty much any place north of an Augusta-Macon-Columbus line.

Regarding the Fire Danger Day, the weather service says outdoor burning is “discouraged” this aftrnoon and tonight.
