Qualifying begins for May primaries

Qualifying began Monday for the May 19 General Election primaries in Georgia and will close Friday.

In Hall County, qualifying will take place locally for six offices: State Court Judge, Solicitor General, County Commission District 1 (Kathy Cooper), County Commission District 2 (Greg Poole), County Board of Education Post 1 (Dr. Debra Smith), and County Board of Education Post 2 (Brian Sloan).

Qualifying for offices such as Georgia Senate and House, District Attorney and Superior Court Judge takes place in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the county elections office is still looking for poll workers, saying earlier this year it was trying to recruit 100 new poll workers to help with this year’s election cycle which runs through the General Election in November and beyond if any runoffs are needed.

Poll workers must be at least 16 years old, and a resident of Hall County or a neighboring county, with a special emphasis on the need for Spanish-speaking poll workers, a county notice says. All poll workers receive paid training prior to the election season. www.bit.ly/HallPollWorker
