The Banks County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is sounding the alarm about a new game Porch Pirates are playing and one, like the original, that could cost you.
BCSO FACEBOOK POST:
“Scammers send fake texts, emails, or even social media messages pretending to be from UPS (or sometimes FedEx, USPS, or other delivery companies). The message claims that a delivery attempt was missed, a package is on hold, or you need to reschedule your delivery. It will include a link or a button that looks official.
The link usually leads to:
A fake website that looks like the real UPS site
A form asking for personal info, like your name, address, phone number, or even credit card details (they may claim there’s a small “redelivery fee”)
Malware or spyware that can infect your device
Signs to look out for: The message is unexpected, spelling or grammar in the message, web address is suspicious, or urgent or threating language.”
