Party City closing all stores

One day after another national retailer announced plans to close all its stores, another said it’s doing the same. Both have stores in Gainesville and elsewhere in the immediate area.

Party City CEO Barry Litwin told employees Friday in a video hookup that the company is “winding down” operations immediately and that Friday would be their last day on the job.

Nearly two billion dollars in debt, the retailer declared bankruptcy almost two years ago after struggling to pay up. After that, it closed more than 80 locations.

In addition to Gainesville, Party City has stores in Gainesville, Buford and Cumming, and 20 other places in Georgia. It follows by one day Big Lots’ announcement that it plans to close all of its stores including those in Gainesville, Buford, Cumming and Cornelia. EARLIER STORY: Big Lots closing all remaining stores
