*Atlanta is flirting with allowing open drinking in downtown Atlanta – open containers – ahead of the FIFA World Cup matches to boost economic impact. Translation: more foot traffic downtown. It’s illegal now to consume alcohol outside permitted businesses sans a special permit. Atlanta is thinking about changing that.

*UPDATE – Gwinnett Police Chief James McClure calls the shooting Sunday that left two one of his officers dead and another hospitalized an unprovoked attack. Killed was officer Pradeep TaMang, 25. Seriously wounded was Master Police Officer David Reed. One of them managed to shoot back and wounded Kevin Andrews, 35, who is in hospital custody.

*Atlanta is Georgia’ most romantic city and the fourth-most romantic city in the country, according to a recent study. Shane Co., a jewelry distributor, has named 15 U.S. cities it considers to be the most romantic based on the cost of a three-course meal for two and marriage rates by state. Also, the number of romantic restaurants and hotels, search volumes for romance-related terms, the number of florists and jewelry stores per capita.
