One killed in Commerce house fire; White Co. mobile home fire seriously injuries one

Residential fires in our area this week continue to take their toll on property and people.

A house fire in Commerce Tuesday took the life of one person and a one person was life-flighted to the Grady Burn Center in Atlanta following a mobile home fire in White County.

A Commerce Fire Department news release says the fatal fire occurred about 6:30 at 100 Laura Lane. Neighbors told firefighters a man lived there by himself and was believed to be at home. Crews immediately began a search of the structure and pulled the victim from the house. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Commerce firefighters were assisted in fighting the fire by units from the Nicholson, Maysville and Jackson County Correctional Institute fire departments.

The White County mobile home fire occurred in Sautee about 3:00 Wednesday morning. All the occupants were out of the structure when firefighters arrived but one was suffering from serious burns and it was decided to have him flown to Grady.

White County firefighters were assisted by units from the Cleveland and Helen fire departments.

The fire was in the 3000 block of Highway 255 North.

Tuesday, separate fires in Hall County left one person dead and seven homeless.
