It happened Friday at College Square Shopping Center Oakwood Police spokesman Jay Ivey said Monday.
“Officers responded to the area of Tractor Supply for a reckless driver,” Ivey said. “Upon arrival they made contact with Mr. (Gerald Thomas) Housewright who was near the vehicle and had a firearm on his side. Officers began to approach him and at that point he fled on foot dropping the firearm on the ground.”
Ivey said Housewright ran into a locked door at tractor supply injuring himself. Officers were able to take him into custody without further incident.
The firearms serial number was sanded off and a search of the vehicle was conducted, and narcotics were located, Ivey added.
Late Monday night, Housewright, 40, was being held without bond in the Hall County Jail. Charges include Criminal Use of Article with Altered ID Mark, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Schedule IV Drugs, Possession Firearm/Knife in the Commission of a Crime, Probation Violation, and Obstructing/Resisting Officer/Arrest.
