Newly appointed Hall planning commissioners undergoing two days of training

As the Hall County Commission (HCC) continues to rebuild the county’s planning commission, the four newly appointed commissioners are spending today and tomorrow in training.

County officials announced Monday that the four would be at The Retreat Lodge at River Forks Park & Campground from 9:00-4:00 each day.

The training is being conducted by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia, and the course is titled Planning and Zoning 101: The Basics of Planning & Zoning in Georgia. It covers such things as Community Planning, Zoning, Case Study, Applicable State Laws, and Local Decision-Making. Also, Community: What Is It? Why Do We Care?, Measuring Successful Communities, Engaged and Engagement, Best Practices, and Managing Public Hearings.

The four new planning commissioners are Shannon Davidson, Susan King, Bradley Dunkel, and Andre Castleberry. The fifth member will be appointed by the county commissioner who succeeds, according to Commission Chairman David Gibbs. Poole resigned to run for Congress.

Davidson and Castleberry were members of the old board which was dissolved by the county commission because some members were alleged to have violated the state’s Open Meetings Law.
