More sticker shock at the pumps

As you may have heard the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline topped $4.00 a gallon last week for the first time since August 2022 and it surged again in Gainesville and the rest of Georgia.

The nationwide average is $4.11 compared to $4.01 a week ago. In Gainesville, it’s $3.71; it was $3.58 last week. And the statewide average is $3.72, ten cents more than last Monday, despite the governor’s removal of the state’s gasoline tax.

AAA says crude oil prices have been surging, surpassing $100/barrel, as the conflict in the Middle East continues and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. In 2022, gas prices remained elevated from March through August, peaking in June when the national average reached a record of $5.00 a gallon for one week.
