Monthly Gville building permit report

Permits were issued during April for nearly 40 new single-family homes in Gainesville.

There were 38 of them approved for construction expected to cost $6.4 million. Another three permits were issued for residential additions, remodeling and repairs. That work is pegged at $465,000.

On the commercial side of the ledger, only one permit at $5,280 was okayed during the month for new construction, one of the slowest months in recent years. Two permits for additions, remodeling and repairs were approved for construction expected to cost $730,000.

When you factor in associated permits for such things as heating and air, electrical, plumbing, etc., the number of permits issued for both commercial and residential projects totaled 178 in April for work valued at $12 million.
