*Georgia’s governor is going to serve on a bipartisan board to help federal and state governments collaborate on emergency and military responses. President Trump named Brian Kemp (pictured) to the Council of Governors this week. The board is made up of five Republican and five Democrat governors.
*A bill for childcare income tax credits is moving through the State Capitol. The Senate approved a measure Wednesday to provide families with an additional $250 for each child under the age of seven. Lt. Gov. Burt Jones said helping families with rising childcare costs is something he won’t waiver on this session. The bill now goes to the House of Representatives.
*Some of the South’s cheapest groceries are in the Peach State. That’s according to a study from WalletHub, which reports Georgia households pay just under two percent of their incomes for food. Georgia’s overall ranking was 30th in the country for 2024. Most of the country’s highest spenders on groceries when considering median income are in the southeast.
*Atlanta-based Delta is offering to pay passengers who were on board a plane that crash landed in Toronto earlier this week. The airline announced Wednesday that $30,000 is being offered to each person, with no strings attached. Customers are also being compensated with hotel rooms, meals and more.
SPORTS
*Spring training is in full swing. The Braves had their full roster report to camp in Florida this week and last year’s National League Cy Young award winner Chris Sale took the mound Wednesday. The first game of spring training takes place Saturday afternoon against the Twins.
The Hawks are inching their way back to the hardwood. The team returns Friday night against the Magic from State Farm Arena. Atlanta has won three of its last four games and sits ninth in the Eastern Conference at 26-29.
Georgia basketball is gearing up for a pivotal SEC showdown this weekend. The team battles top-ranked Auburn Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs are coming off a big loss to #16 Missouri. UGA has lost three straight and is 16-10.
