*Dozens of people protested in Atlanta over the weekend over immigration rights. The demonstration was organized by PSL Atlanta at Centennial Park Sunday. Protestors called for full rights for immigrants and an end to what they call racist policies.
*Meanwhile, two demonstrations were held on Saturday in Atlanta over Elon Musk’s role in government and the other over President Trump’s proposal to take over Gaza. About 25 people gathered outside of a Tesla dealership in Decatur to protest the actions of the Trump-Musk Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Tusk is the founder of Telsa. And the Gaza protestors also marched outside of the Israeli Consulate in Atlanta. Meanwhile, anti-Trump “Not my President” protests are planned around the country today, President’s Day, including in Atlanta.
*The death toll is rising as severe weather slams the Eastern U.S. At least one person was killed in Georgia when a thunderstorm toppled a tree onto a home in Atlanta early Sunday. Elsewhere, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says at least eight people are dead after heavy flooding across his state. In DeKalb County, a tree fell on railroad tracks in Decatur, while power lines were downed in Dunwoody, leading to traffic disruptions and outages. Inmates at the Clayton County Jail were left in the dark for hours on Sunday.
*Relatives of a Columbus couple killed in a rollover crash have been awarded $2.5 billion by a jury in the west Georgia city. The defendant was Ford Motor Corporation. The case grew out of an accident three years ago that involved a Ford F250 “Super Duty” truck that rolled and went airborne for 81 feet after hitting a driveway drainage culvert. The lawsuit said the vehicle had “defective and dangerously weak roofs.” Herman and Debra Mills lost their lives in the accident. A Ford spokesperson said it plans to appeal the decision.
