*Two recent polls both show the top two contenders for the Republican nomination for governor are Rick Jackson and Burt Jones. The “New York Times” has Jones in first place and Jackson 2nd. But a 270-to-Win poll has Jackson first at 26% and Jones 19.6%. The primary is May 19.
*Traffic deaths fell in Georgia in 2025, according to preliminary data released by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Georgia saw 1,307 traffic deaths in 2025, compared with 1,403 deaths the year prior, a 6.8 percent decline, according to the report. The fatality rate last year was 1.02 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. And the report shows traffic fatalities were across much of the country. (CUMMING PATCH)
*Georgia Democrats see a huge midterm election coming this fall – but can they seize the opportunity? That was the buzz Saturday night at the annual Carter-Lewis gala in Atlanta for the party faithful. Hundreds attending the fundraiser and are cautiously hopeful given the showing by the Democrat in last week’s 14th congressional district election in which their party’s candidate polled more than 40 percent of the vote in a strongly Republican area.
