Hot weather impact on local football growing

One day after announcing a later start time for Friday’s West Hall High School football game, Hall County school officials today announced that all of tomorrow’s 8th grade games have been moved to a later date.

School system spokesman Stan Lewis wrote in an email Wednesday morning “(this is) due to extremely high temperatures forecasted for tomorrow’s kickoff time, all of our 8th grade football games have been rescheduled for October 12.”

Lewis had announced yesterday that the West Hall, scheduled for 7:30, was now set for an 8:00 kickoff.

“The Johnson/West Hall game has been pushed to an 8 p.m. kickoff,” he said at the time, “for now, the Cherokee Bluff/Adairsville Game is still set at 7:30.”

Forecasters warned over the weekend that we were in for an abnormally hot week, pushing into the next weekend, with actual temperatures at times near or at 100 and heat indexes at around 105. The National Weather Service says Friday’s high in Gainesville is expected to be 95. Thursday’s, 94.
