Helene: Food bank feeds first responders

Having canceled its annual Empty Bowl Luncheon because of Hurrican Helene, the Gainesville-based Georgia Mountain Food Bank (GMFB) has donated the food set aside for the event to first responders who have been busy preparing for and now dealing with the storm.

“We did it!!,” a Facebook post reads. “The team delivered hundreds of meals today from Amanda’s Farm to Fork that were meant to feed our guests at #emptybowl2024. We had to cancel our fundraising event due to the storm but the food did not go to waste! We did what we do best and got that food out all over the community. Hall County EMS Storm Command Center, City of Gainesville Station 1, Jackson EMC, Salvation Army, North Georgia Works, Lighthouse Ministries, and Set Free all have warm soup, chili, rolls and cookies tonight!”

So, what happens to tall those “empty bowls” members of the community had made that were to be auctioned off at the luncheon? Well, you’ll still get a chance to bid on one – or more – through an online silent auction.

“The Silent Auction is now OPEN! We have celebrity autographed bowls, jewelry, sport memorabilia, baskets and experience packages. Click here to view auction catalog and place your bids: https://shorturl.at/ygwYU
