A 75-year-old Gainesville man is free on bond after the sheriff’s office says he was arrested early Wednesday on numerous traffic charges, including DUI and fleeing and attempting to elude, after he refused to stop for a deputy who says he was driving erratically on Jesse Jewell Parkway.
HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:
“Just after 2:00 a.m., the deputy observed John Donald Sosebee driving a pickup truck in the westbound lanes of Jesse Jewell Parkway/Browns Bridge Road in the area of West End Avenue. The deputy noted that Mr. Sosebee was driving erratically, slowing down and then speeding up, failing to signal before he turned right onto West End Avenue and then crossing into the opposite lane of travel as he made the turn.
The deputy then observed Mr. Sosebee turn right from West End to Pearl Nix Parkway and then make an improper right turn onto John Morrow Parkway. The deputy activated the blue lights on his patrol vehicle and sounded his siren in an attempt to have Mr. Sosebee pull over to the side of the road. Instead, Mr. Sosebee sped up to 41 mph and continued to drive toward Jesse Jewell Parkway; he then stopped in the right lane of John Morrow Parkway.
As the deputy exited his patrol vehicle to speak with Mr. Sosebee, the offender began driving toward Jesse Jewell Parkway. He turned right and continued driving westbound on Jesse Jewell Parkway until the deputy stopped him using a PIT maneuver near Scotland Avenue. Mr. Sosebee attempted to drive away a second time, but was blocked by a Gainesville Police Department patrol vehicle that had arrived to assist with the incident. Mr. Sosebee refused to exit his vehicle and grabbed the steering wheel when a second deputy who arrived at the scene tried to remove him from the truck.
Mr. Sosebee was transported to the hospital for observation before he was taken to the Hall County Jail. He remains in custody on charges of DUI (multiple substances), failure to maintain lane, improper right turn, obstruction and fleeing/attempting to elude. He paid a bond of $4,160 and was released from custody Friday morning…”
