*Georgia House Republicans are drawing up a proposal to use hand-marked ballots on Election Day. The Governmental Affairs Committee is soon expected to dive into details about the initiative, which would allow voters to fill out ballots by hand before they’re counted by machines. Early in-person voters would have the choice of touchscreen or hand-marked ballots. Athens-Clarke County’s elections board chair said the proposal is aimed at fixing something that’s not broken.
*More than 200 people are going to lose their jobs at a Barnesville textile plant. Continental Tire’s Aldora Mills will be closing its doors by the end of 2026 due to a lack of cost competitiveness. The company announced yesterday that the 235 employees will be laid off this Spring, and then in December. Continental opened the location nearly 40 years ago.
*There’s a new Republican candidate in Georgia’s race for governor. Healthcare executive Rick Jackson launched his campaign Tuesday as an outsider with no political experience. But the billionaire touts himself as a real-life conservative and supporter of Donald Trump. Jackson will go up against Burt Jones, Chris Carr and Brad Raffensperger in the primary. Jackson owns Jackson Healthcare, one of the largest health care staffing firms in the country.
