Hall Co.: Renewed interest in ‘virtual school’ since Apalachee

Based on some social media posts, there is renewed interest in Hall County in online learning in the wake of the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School last week.

And the Hall County School District (HCSD) has responded by posting its own message outlining how its Virtual Program of Choice (VPOC) works. The county’s VPOC was created during the pandemic.

HCSD FACEBOOK POST:

“Update HCSD:  If you want your child to attend school online, here is how you do it:

…Current enrollment at the VPOC is approximately 325 students.

VPOC teachers in the HCSD are housed on the campus of Cherokee Bluff Middle School and support students across the Hall County School District and even serves a few outside of the Hall County School District.

The majority of the teachers serve middle and high school students, but we do currently serve a small group of elementary-aged students in Grades 4 and 5.

VPOC even has field trips for students during the course of the year as we realize there is a need for student socialization with their peers and instructors. For those interested, parents can complete an application if they are interested in VPOC, and the application along with additional information can be found at this district link.

The principal of VPOC is Dr. Scott Tipton.  His email address is [email protected] and he can be reached by contacting CBMS at 470-892-3686.

The Virtual Program of Choice is not a program for students lacking motivation, attempting to avoid instruction, or struggling to behave.  Feel free to share this information.  Do not hesitate to reach back out if you have follow-up questions.  Thanks!”
