Rainfall in Gainesville during September was well-above normal thanks to Hurricane Helene while temperatures were about normal.
According to the National Weather Service’s (NWS) September Climate Summary, rainfall at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport topped ten inches (10.22) for the month, 6.33 inches above normal. Several other places in the NWS Peachtree City Office service area, all of north and parts of central Georgia, recorded 10+ inches, including Atlanta, Columbus and Peachtree City.
Temperatures in Gainesville, meanwhile, averaged 73.4, one-degree above average. The warmest day of the month was the 22nd – when the mercury topped out at 94 degrees. Only Peachtree City and Columbus recorded below normal readings.
Statewide, temperatures were within one degree of normal and rainfall between two and eight inches above normal.
