Groundbreaking set for long-planned $86M Sardis Connector

Hall County will host a groundbreaking ceremony April 17, at 3:30 to celebrate the start of the Sardis Road Connector project.

“Hall County first began evaluating the Sardis Connector in 2004, so the construction of this project is a huge milestone for us,” District 2 Commissioner Billy Powell said. “Ultimately, it will serve as a vital piece of connectivity not only to the citizens of my district but also to the Hall County community as a whole.”

The Sardis Road Connector is a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)-led project that consists of widening and reconstructing several local roads and streets, adding new roadways and a new alignment. The project will begin at the intersection of Sardis Road and Chestatee Road and extend northward to (SR) State Route 60 (Thompson Bridge Road) in the vicinity of Mount Vernon Road. It will be approximately 3.55 miles long and will provide a connector roadway between SR 60 and SR 53.

“This is a massive project that will create a four-lane curb and gutter divided roadway, having two lanes in each direction, which will significantly decrease the current traffic congestion we experience in North Hall,” Powell said.

The project is budgeted for $86.2 million, with $28.3 million allocated for preconstruction and funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI, VII and VIII. The remaining $56 million is allocated for construction and funded by GDOT.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 3565 Thompson Bridge Road, the former Happy Pappy’s Storage facility location.
