“In an effort to reduce entering autos in shopping areas, some Gainesville police officers will be occupying unmarked vehicles this holiday shopping season.
The annual “Spot the Cop” campaign will kick off this week to start the holiday shopping season. This will allow officers to effectively identify suspicious activities/persons. Please lock your vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.
To help reduce motor vehicle crashes, several patrol cars will be on public roadways in the shopping areas to enforce traffic laws.”

Seven things to remember while holiday shopping or anytime:
“Don’t shop alone, especially at night.
Park in well-lit areas of shopping center parking lots.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Limit the number of trips back to your car.
Don’t leave packages in plain view in your car. Lock them in your trunk.
Have your keys ready before you get to your car.
Remember ELFS – Enter the car, Lock the doors, Fasten Seatbelts.”
