A decision to cancel a gospel concert this summer at a northeast Georgia venue in a favor of a concert by a country music star is not sitting well with many.
“Friends, we are sad to announce that we’ve had to cancel this year’s Gospel Show on Sunday, August 16,” a Facebook post from Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds says. “While it’s always one of our favorite days at the Fair, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring Vince Gill back for a second night so more of you have the chance to enjoy this living legend at Anderson Music Hall.
“And speaking of Vince, just like the first show, there will be a presale through Vince Gill’s official fan club on Wednesday, with our venue tickets going on sale Friday, March 13 at 10am.”
And after that, social media lit up with rection to the change.
A sampling:
“If you’ve been to a Vince Gill concert, you will definitely get some gospel/spiritual music as well.”
“While I love Southern Gospel Music, it only makes sense to book such a sought after entertainer when you can.”
“Sorry I am a fan of Vince Gill but you’re taking 60 years of tradition away…”
“I WOULDN’T PAY ONE BUCK TO ATTEND THE VINCE GILL CONCERT, AFTER CANCELLATION OF THE GOSPEL SING…”
“That’s sad after so many years. This has been a tradition for many many years.”
“I love Vince but I totally disagree with this decision.”
“Great decision!! Vince Gill is amazing.”
“Pretty sad to have to cancel the gospel concerts that lots of people love to come to.”
“That’s a shame!! Those groups were on the schedule and advertising done!”
Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds replied “We understand your frustrations. We wish we could do both but it just wasn’t possible at this time and we know a lot of people were unable to get tickets for Vince Gill so we wanted to give them another opportunity. The gospel show will still be happening at the Fall Festival though…”
